    The Regency of Karangasem
This regency is located in the eastern part of Bali, in a low, flat and stony hill. In the middle of the regency is the noble mountain in Bali. A great part of the population are farmers but much of the region is hilly and stony, so that to soil is not so fertile, especially since the eruption of Gunung Agung in the 1963 when a major part of the regency of Karangasem became dry and follow

    1. The City of Karang asem


The capital of the regency is Karang asem. This is the seat of the government, complete with schools and government offices. Besides that, there are also ancient buildings and temples and the big puri Karangasem. Some parts of Karangasem city are still coverd by lava from Gunung Agung. It is 80 km from Denpasar.


  1. Taman Ujung


A beautiful blending of hils, mountains, and the sea with a pool and old Balinese style buildings; this park is 4 km from Karangasem.


    1. Taman Tirta Gangga


This park with a building in the middle of clear water pool is located on the beach, 6 km from Karangasem.


  1. The beach of Candi Dasa


A beautiful white sand beach, 9 km from KarangAsem. Pura Dasa is located along the road nearby.


  1. The village of Bungaya


6 km from Karangasem. This is a village where almost every inhabitant is a sculptor with an ancient atmosphere.


  1. The village of Tenganan


A village, located 12 km from Karangasem well known for its adat customs and village structure which are different from other villages in Bali. A famous handicraft is only found in said village, namely the so called kain gresing cloth which is colored with natural colors extracted from plants.


  1. The Sanghyang Ambu hill


A beautiful palce with curving roads between the hills and terraced rice-fields, 19 km from Karangasem.


  1. The village of iseh


From this fresh and cool place, 20 km from Karangasem the slpoe of the Gunung Agung with its lava trace is clearly visible.


  1. Besakih


This Village is located on the slope of Gunung Agung 40 k from Karangasem. It is the site of the biggest temple in all over Bali, namely pura Besakih. The ceremony at said temple which is held once a year is called the ceremony “Betara Turun Kabeh”


  1. The village of Abian Jero


Almost every on in this village is a painter or sculptor, 4 km from Karangasem.


  1. Bukit Jambul


A beautiful hill region from where we can see the vast terraced rice-fields which extand to the south to the blue sea speckled with the white of the breakers, 7 km from Karangasem (in the boundary between Klungking-Karangasem.)
