This regency is located in the eastern part of Bali, in a low, flat and stony hill. In the middle of the regency is the noble mountain in Bali. The capital of the regency is Karang asem. This is the seat of the government, complete with schools and government offices. Besides that, there are also ancient buildings and temples and the big puri Karangasem. Some parts of Karangasem city are still coverd by lava from Gunung Agung. It is 80 km from Denpasar.
